MDC Class Represents the Broad Scope of the Cash Flow Industry
by Judy Arndt
Every person inducted into the Million Dollar Club has a unique story to tell about how they got there and some wisdom to share with his or her fellow cash flow professionals.
During most years, what have made the stories special are the marketing methods that work or the deals that got the MDC member started or, to be honest, the lucky breaks that made the difference for them.
This year, it is the niches in which the MDC inductees operate that truly make this a special class.
You’ve read some of their stories in the October, February, and April issues of the Journal. You will find five more stories in this special convention issue. Here, we want to feature all 10 inductees and review their stories. (Others do not pertain to this niche/specialty and therefore omitted).
Dr. Anthony Cicone, CFS
Dr. Anthony Cicone has had an up-and-down career in cash flow, although he firmly believes he is doing what God wants him to do. A former pastor, Anthony first got involved in cash flow when a parishioner of his asked him to be a part-time partner with him in a factoring company. The parishioner eventually left the business and took all the knowledge about the business with him.
Anthony next heard about cash flow when he received an invitation to an ACFI presentation. Answers to prayer and other signs allow Anthony to believe that God wanted him to pursue the cash flow opportunity, so he did.
A few years later, a prospect came to Anthony looking for some consumer financing, and Anthony found a funding source for the project. However, by the time the funding was all approved, the client had changed its mind and decided to self-fund its consumer contracts.
Two years later, when Anthony was all but out of the business and had changed phone numbers and addresses; the client came back and said it was ready to do the financing. Anthony worked out a deal with a funding source, and he’s been collecting residual commissions ever since. He was named Broker of the Year by the funding source last year.
“My success has been a gift of the Lord, but he has blessed me as well by sending me a wife who has been tremendously supportive,” he says, wanting to communicate how much of a help his wife, Elsie, has been. “She does the Internet technology side of this and the Web design. She does all the accounting work for me. She has a very entrepreneurial spirit and understands what I'm doing and is very interested in it.”
There is a little more to Anthony’s story. First, his business is flourishing. He isn’t just relying on that one deal. Second, he and his wife pledge a good portion of what he earns to faith-based charities that help children.
For our purposes, Cicone is the first Million Dollar Club inductee to achieve his success in the area of retail installment contracts, a highly lucrative niche that, for some reason, very few cash flow professionals pursue.
